Statement of Faith

Definition of Christianity

Christians are people who have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, by which they are saved from sin and death and gain eternal life. The basis of this relationship is described in the Bible. Although no written statement can completely describe this relationship or adequately summarize the Bible, the following is regarded as consistent with the Bible and providing a useful elaboration of Christianity.

Statement on Scriptures

The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, wholly inspired by God. They are sufficient in teaching us what we need to know to be saved and gain eternal life. They are the only written Word of God, and they are inerrant in the original writings as directed by God Himself. The purpose of the Scriptures is to reveal God’s will for mankind, thereby giving direction for Christian faith and life.

Statement on the Total Being of God

There is only one God. God exists in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All three Persons are One, equal in importance and nature, existing together in perfect harmony. God has always existed and will always exist. He is all knowing and all powerful. He is the creator of the spiritual and material realms, including all things on the earth and especially including all mankind. God is the provider and sustainer of his creation. He is the ruler and judge of all.

Statement on God the Father

God the Father was proclaimed by His son Jesus Christ and is still proclaimed in His Word (the Bible) and by all Christian believers. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16, KJV)

Statement on Jesus Christ the Son of God

Jesus Christ is eternal and creation was carried out through Him. He was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life on earth, where He performed many miraculous things and taught and healed many people. He was crucified on a cross and died for the sins of all mankind. He rose from death on the third day and ascended into heaven. He offers salvation (from sin) and eternal life to all who put their trust in Him. One day Jesus will return to earth to establish His kingdom of righteousness and peace.

Statement on the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the living, personal presence of God that man can experience. He was involved in creation and in all the supernatural activities of God including the miraculous works of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is available to teach, comfort, and empower all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Statement on Mankind

God created mankind in His own image to live an abundant life. God gave us a will and freedom of choice. Although we are sinful by nature and tend to choose wrong ways, God has made provision for us to be forgiven through Jesus Christ.

Statement on Salvation

Salvation is the state we find ourselves in when God has forgiven us because we have admitted we are sinners and now desire to love and serve him. We gain salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as the One Who died on the cross for us and rose from the dead, thus paying the penalty for our sin. Jesus thus bridges the gap between God and mankind, and is the One who thenceforth gives direction to our lives.
